JORDANE SOMVILLE

I don't draw my models beforehand, it's the material that directs me and the technique that invites me towards the volumes. It is a dialogue between them (material and technique) and me.

I chose modelling porcelain. It has several working textures. It can be worked soft, leather-like after a time of drying, dry. It is by this observation that I began a formal work on the first gestures of the man. I began by scratching and tearing the porcelain. I crumpled it, braided it like a piece of string. After these moments of experimentation, I place these pieces of glazed porcelain on a bust and try to hang them around a neck. I want people to be able to move around with these little sculptures, to share them, to strut their stuff.
