WABI
The craftsmen of Yogyakarta, in the heart of Java, harvest rattan from the impenetrable jungle. This wild, thorny vine can be more than two hundred metres long. In the region, it is particularly hardy and dense. When brought back to the village, the rattan is sorted, washed and dried. It is then sanded to become smooth. It is bent with steam and meticulously placed on a wooden structure to obtain the desired pattern, which is then varnished. A delicate job, a new challenge for the CFOC craftsmen.
