Garden stone
In Chinese gardens, we often see pieces of stone in odd shapes. They are often placed alongside plants and ponds, serving to simulate an image of mountains and seas. These stones are called Taihu stones 太湖石 (literally «stones of the great lake»). As the name suggests, these stones are created by the natural flow of the lake. People put entire pieces of limestone into the lake and with time, the lake does the work naturally, carving pores and holes in stones.
