Shiina-kiriko is a brand of glass factory Glass Lab established in 1950. The factory specializes in the Edo Kiriko technique of “flat faceting,” in which glass is polished flat, and sandblasting, an engraving method using sand. By combining these two techniques, the sandblasted pattern engraved on the bottom of the piece is “reflected” in the flat faceting on the side. The sandblasted pattern on the bottom is reflected on the flat faceted glass on the side, creating a completely new type of Edo Kiriko.
