Founded in 1899, Marukyu Shoten is a textile design company specializing in traditional Japanese summer kimonos (yukata) and fabrics, located in downtown Tokyo. Since the early 20th century, Marukyu Shoten’s fabrics have been hand-dyed using a traditional and unique Japanese stencil dyeing technique called Chusen, which enables both sides of the fabric to be dyed simultaneously. While the Shinedozome brand focuses on traditional fashion items and fabrics for yukata, the Tewsen brand, launched in 2022, offers a more casual, unisex lifestyle-oriented collection featuring shirts and trousers.
