GATOS DE RUA

he activities of Gato de Rua began in 2004 with Beto Kelner handicraft workshops held in Recife, in northern Brazil. From his youth Kelner was interested in fashion and design, and produced and sold his own works of art from an early age

Now he proposed sustainable possibilities with regard to the recycling of plastic bottles, processing them into fabric and plastic beads; aluminum cans into wire with which he could work to create art works. From the start local communities and young people were involved, in learning about each stage of the processes, including marketing. Gatos de Rua promotes awareness of environmental and educational issues. It’s ultimate goal, no less, is to stimulate a redefinition of the social role of the individual within society, and generate a socioeconomic transformation.
