Ahlaat backstrap loom hand woven natural color dyed with glass beads cushion cover

Creating patterns using beads is a distinct technique of the Katu ethnic group, who residing in the Southern part of Laos. A weaver strung glass beads on the weft thread and then placed these in between specific warp threads to form a design. Weaving by the Katu is unique since they continue to use a foot braced, backstrap loom, the oldest loom type in the world.
