Founded in 1918, Hirose Dyeworks has specialized in dyeing Edo Komon patterns using katagami stencil, for over a century. Edo Komon is a type of finely detailed kimono patterns that originates from samurai’s ceremonial clothes and courtiers from 15th and 17th centuries. Edo Komon is characterized by their delicate, repeating fine patterns, which may look like solid color at a glance. The subtle patterns are revealed once you get closer, expressing a feeling of surprise and wonder at the same time.
