Product description

Oya lace is crafted with an extremely fine needle and delicate thread, sometimes highlighted with beads to highlight their motifs, by Anatolian women. Christine Delpal reinvents this traditional art by creating a collection of delicate jewelry. A lace arabesque ornament that evokes eternal femininity. A contemporary creation resulting from cultural miscegenation. Oya necklaces were born from the fusion between the Turkish lace tradition and the traveling gaze of Christine Delpal, creator of the Karawan brand. The intense and promising encounter with Hanifa and her sisters, inhabitants of a town in Anatolia, was an evidence. Since its founding, Karawan has been committed to valuing the artisanal knowledge of the Silk Roads through the creation of unique collections. Christine reinterprets them through contemporary design to keep them alive within a solidarity economy approach. A shared desire to transmit knowledge and accompany their professionalization, generating income and innovation based on exceptional feminine artisanal traditions, often limited to the domestic environment. Christine spent long periods in the mountains of Anatolia with Hanifa, and together they designed these pieces in a dynamic of co-creation. Inspired by the earthy colors of the region and the changing rhythm of the seasons, these jewels can be combined as coordinated sets or mixed freely, with the delicate ornament of lace as its common thread. Since 2010, 30 women from nearby towns have come together in a collective to train younger generations and organize a production that develops throughout the year, encouraging the constant renewal of collections.
