'Solar' celebrates the communication of different cultures with the cosmos. In its design, Studio Orbeat attempted to merge European and pre-Hispanic astrological measuring instruments, such as the astrolabe and the telescope or the inca 'qipu'.Solar's unusual and unique shape also refers to Albert Einstein's abstract idea of the "fabric" of space-time, in which the stars are contained. An analogy of this idea in visual terms, is the 'qipu', the Inca communication system that used knots within a fabric, an image used by many contemporary peruvian artists. More Floor lamps
