Large wooden dogon door, mali
This product is not available on MOM anymore.
Product description
The Great Dogon Gate is a traditional work of art of the Dogon people of Mali, carved from solid wood. It consists of several vertical panels held by horizontal crosspieces. The relief patterns represent anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures, symbolizing ancestors, protective spirits, and elements of Dogon cosmogony. These doors served to protect attics and homes, while telling stories and conveying spiritual messages. They bear witness to ancestral know-how and a rich artistic tradition.
