The Baoulés are an ethnic group living mainly in Ivory Coast. They are part of the greater Akan group and are renowned for their rich artistic and cultural heritage. Baoulé art is particularly known for its wooden sculptures, which include anthropomorphic figures and masks. These sculptures play an important role in religious rituals, ceremonies and healing practices.Baoulé statues are loaded with symbolism and are used in various spiritual and ritual practices.The most famous Baoulé statues are the “blolo bian” (male spiritual husband) and “blolo bla” (female spiritual wife) figures.
