Product description
This sculpture represents a bronze maternity ward, originating from the Tikar culture, a people living in the Western region of Cameroon. Depictions of motherhood are common in African art and symbolize fertility, maternal protection and the continuity of the family lineage. The sculpture is in bronze, using the lost wax technique, typical of the African metallurgical tradition. This technique allows great finesse in details and remarkable durability. The patina of the bronze shows a depth of dark tones. The sculpture depicts a woman carrying a child on her back. The base of the sculpture is richly decorated with bas-relief figures, probably representing members of the community or protective spirits. These figures add a narrative and symbolic dimension to the work. This bronze maternity sculpture is a work of art rich in meaning, representing fertility, protection and feminine power in Tikar culture. The meticulous details, dynamic posture, and deep patina demonstrate the piece's artisanal expertise and cultural significance. An exceptional and imposing work. Presumed age: mid-20th centuryEthnic group: Tikar, CameroonDimensions: height 92cm, width 40cm !Product specifications
