A sense of detail has been brought to the ornamentation of these altar heads and throughout the surface. The foot of the altar represents the OBA, the king adorned with his winged headdress, the features of his face are reproduced in a beautiful harmony. The 2 horns stand in perfect symmetry, at the end of the horn sits an armed soldier. The Kingdom of Benin in the south of present-day Nigeria is renowned for its magnificent bronzes using the lost-wax technique.
