Inspired by the racing success of the 300 SL (W194) in competition since 1952, the renowned Austrian-American car dealer Max Hoffman convinced Daimler-Benz executives to produce a production version of this iconic car. As a result, the 300 SL was unveiled at the New York Auto Show in February 1954. The 300 SL (W198) stands out for its innovative design, notably its tubular chassis, both rigid and lightweight at just 50 kg. This car is one of the first GTs (Grand Tourers) and ranks among the fastest vehicles of its era, capable of reaching 250 km/h.
