Vintage decorative bowl in polychrome enamelled ceramic, made in Brancaleone in Calabria, in southern Italy, probably in the second half of the 20th century. Circular shape with a large openwork edge that uses an intertwined basketry structure, in blue, ochre and brown tones. Hand-painted central medallion on a blue background, with large white flower, yellow and brown squared heart, yellow scrolls and fine white patterns. Brilliant enamel, marked relief on the border and visible variations in the application of the decoration, characteristic of handcrafted work. Brancaleone belongs to a region where decorative ceramics maintain an important place in Calabrian material culture, with utility and ornamental pieces with painted decorations and bright colors. The openwork border that imitates basketry links this cup to an ancient decorative typology, regularly used by Italian workshops in the 20th century. It can be used as a fruit bowl, storage tray or decorative dish; its very graphic decoration also allows it to be displayed alone on a table or a simple piece of furniture.
