Large antique woven wicker basket, probably from the first half of the 20th century. Deep oval shape, slightly flared walls and a large arched handle composed of twisted straps. Dense and regular braiding on the lower part, more openwork on the upper walls, with thick border with a woven pattern. The different basketry techniques visible on the same piece correspond to artisanal work intended to ensure both solidity and lightness. This type of basket belongs to the tradition of European rural utility basketry, with shapes designed for transporting groceries, and shopping at the market. Its large format still allows this use today as a market basket or shopping basket, but also to store linen, magazines or various everyday objects. Over time, wicker has taken on brown and honey tones, with natural variations and traces of use. Antique basketry works particularly well with raw wood, natural linen, ceramics or in an environment with country and wabi-sabi influences. Dimensions: height 45 cm; width 43 cm; depth 25 cm.
