Carving service composed of a fork with three prongs and a knife, intended for cutting meat and poultry at the table. The handles are in silver-plated metal, with a pointed section, slightly flared towards the end and finished on the blade side with a molded ring. The fork has a baluster neck, a tooth base decorated with a small relief decoration and three long and fine teeth. The knife is equipped with a stainless steel blade with a straight back and a rounded tip, marked “ALFÉNIDE PARIS INOX”. A sober, almost architectural design, in its place on a raw wooden board or next to a ceramic dish, for a family table as well as for a more contemporary service. The fork is 24 cm long and the knife is 27 cm long. Good condition of use: patinated silvering with gray reflections, fine scratches and traces of friction on the sleeves, slight oxidation around the rings, fine polishing scratches on the blade. Probably French manufacture from the middle of the 20th century: the stainless steel blade and the design of the handles point to the years 1940 to 1960, without certainty. Alfenide originally referred to the alloy of copper, zinc and nickel developed by Halphen around 1850 as the basis for silver metal; the name then became a brand linked to Christofle for part of its production.
