Art textile:flowering karakusa vines

A Japanese take on the designs seen on the kasen in the Shosoin Treasure House--felt rugs believed to have been imported in the eighth century from China or central Asia. The roots of karakusa go back to floral designs on Green temple pillars. Patterns using curved lines to represent intertwined vines spread throughout the Old World.
