Zanzibar is an island known for its rich cultural history, its spices and its pristine beaches. This has made Zanzibar a popular travel destination. Unfortunately, tourism creates huge amounts of waste that are threatening the environment and beauty of the island. CHAKO upcycles some of this waste into functional and attractive products and provides job opportunities for disadvantaged communities. Chako Zanzibar offers training and jobs to disadvantaged, young people with special focus on empowering women and it gives local artisans the chance to create and sell handcrafted products made from recycled waste. A positive step for sustainability in Zanzibar!
