Bow tie in spent grain
Design and manufacturing of a bow tie made from brewing co-product
At the end of March, Benoit Cicilien, our friend and partner, announced big news to us: his wedding will take place on July 8! Benoît, a young urban miller, is the creator of Pintine, a brand of anti-waste flour made from brewing production residue: spent grains. Its flour production itself creates a production residue: spent grain bran. This cereal residue is very poorly digestible, food recovery does not seem relevant so neither one nor two we are looking for a recovery solution to help reduce the impact of its production. Today we use the spent grain bran from Benoît's activity as a raw material in the manufacture of our decorative objects. Benoît no longer throws away any waste and we make objects from recycled materials which allow us to tell the story of ancestral know-how through our creations: the production of beer and flour. But what does all this have to do with marriage? Benoît is passionate about his job, proud of his work to combat waste, he wanted to wear the symbol to celebrate this great day in his personal life. Benoit therefore asked us to design a bow tie made from spent grain bran. Manon, our designer, offers different sketches and thinks about several techniques for wearing this accessory. Once the choice is made, we create the counter mold and the custom mold to make the knot. Before launching into production, we carry out the final material tests to validate the visual rendering desired by our client. Everything must be perfect for this wonderful event. All parameters are validated, we manufacture a unique and meaningful object for our long-term customer and partner! Benoit just had to hang the accessory on the big day!
