WHAT IS A MAEKAKE? The word Maekake (前掛け) is made of mae which means front and kake which means hang so it literally describes how you tie this traditional Japanese apron, on the front. It’s been used as a workwear for over 200 years. Firmly tying the strap around the waist helps preventing from back injuries while the large and heavy cotton canvas will protect your legs as well as keeping your clothes clean. Anything Co. still uses the traditional method of production in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture, which is the last and only remaining place of production in Japan. Their richly textured, indigo fabric is woven on shuttle looms that are more than 100 years old, giving an authentic retro feel to their high quality Maekake. Since I’m personally wearing a maekake everyday when cooking at home it was a dream to design my own, and doing it with a company such as Anything Co. was a real honor! 🙇‍♂️ - Stéphane
