Carlo Calma
Carlo Calma is a Filipino visual artist and architect whose works have been said to be culturally informed, blending disciplines with new modes of being and technology. He has received international recognitions and awards both as an artist and an architect. His design practice challenges itself to cross scales and media blurring the boundaries between art and architecture from bespoke private homes, eco-resorts, museums, hospitality to public installations. The philosophy of his practice looks at the potentials, local-engagement, the environment and respond to site contexts and spaces as either cultural phenomena or gearing towards Filipino identity and with a very strong point of view in sustainability. He harnesses Filipino skills, ingenuity, craftsmanship and he continues to produce works of quality, excellence with attention to details - giving meaning to sensuality and materiality.
