THOMAS DARIEL
As the great-grandson of French furniture designers, the grandson of a jazz musician, and the son of an architect, Thomas Dariel draws his strength and inspiration from his family background. In 2006, in Shanghai, he founded his interior design firm, Dariel Studio. By pairing the history of French design with cultural influences from Asia, Thomas Dariel has opened up new creative perspectives in interior design, and opens himself to the possibilities contained with decorative objects. In 2015, he made his childhood dream real and launched his own furniture-making venture, Maison Dada: furniture, lighting, rugs, and accessories that are offbeat and surprising, with a bold, poetic, and playful style. "Maison Dada takes its name from Dadaism, one of the most important artistic movements of the 20th century. I consider it the very essence of design, art, and contemporary thought. Its creative freedom is part of my personal style, both in terms of my products and in my interior design projects. Maison Dada is a reflection of this wild imagination that brings objects to life. I only want furniture that's vibrantly alive. I love when it has soul, when it tells a story."
