As Head of Design at Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Byron oversees brand defining design, standards, and concepts. Born in Hawaii, he moved to Hong Kong in 1996 when Mandarin only had 11 hotels. His favorite project is Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo where in 2005 he introduced the first true sky lobby (lobby on top of the building with guestrooms below). Now he is developing a way to reconcile luxury’s quality of timelessness with the accelerated expectation of changing experiences.
