TSUTSUMU

Luxury New Japanese Tradition

This vessel is composed of lacquer and glass, but it is not a glass cup coated with lacquer. The glass is only the visible part; there is no core material in the other parts of the glass. The parts other than the glass pieces were shaped using only lacquer.
Lacquer is usually applied as paint to a core made of another material, but I wanted to create a form that existed only in lacquer, so I devised a production method. Please enjoy the strength and beauty created by combining two different materials, lacquer, which is an organic substance, and glass, which is an inorganic substance.
