Made to hang at varying heights, the Emily lampshades together draw a luminous landscape that appears to float. The drop height selected and the pairing of finishes alter the character of the composition and redefine how the room is perceived. Every shade is formed entirely by hand: cutting, bending, shaping, welding and sanding. Out of this demanding physical process comes Emily's natural, organic geometry. The series was inspired by the "James Bond Islands" series by Andreas Gursky, where digitally arranged landforms appear to float above a flat horizon line, an artisanal creation.
