Handmade Arita porcelain vase, part of the Shuhari collection — a collaboration between John Mac Ceramics and Japanese potter Nishihara Akira of 十六夜庵 (Izayoi-an), Arita, Japan.The form is thrown by Nishihara Akira — a maker who has absorbed the full depth of the Arita porcelain tradition and stepped deliberately beyond it. The surface is then saggar-fired by John Mac Ceramics in France, at high temperature, allowing smoke, carbon, and metal oxides to act directly on the raw porcelain. The result is a dialogue between two makers and two fires — the precision of Arita, and the unpredictability of the saggar.Each vase is one of a kind. No two surfaces are alike.Purely decorative.
