Ancient white earthenware service or toilet dish, with a scalloped oval shape. Milky white enamel with slightly grey-blue reflections, covered with a fine network of cracks. The outline draws soft lobes, with a more pronounced indentation on one side. The slightly curved back gives the basin the appearance of a low basin. On the reverse, a hollow mark surrounded by a wreath of foliage, partly legible. Probably made in France, from the end of the 19th century or the first half of the 20th century. The indentation recalls the earthenware beard dishes and toilet pieces from this period, without the original use being able to be established (the mark on the reverse is illegible). This dish can find its place in a bathroom, on a sideboard or on a shelf, as a presentation or as a storage compartment. The crackled white and the curves of the outline can be suitable for a wabi-sabi or bohemian chic decoration as well as for a more refined interior. Length: 43.5 cm, width: 31.5 cm, height: 3 cm; Weight: 2 kg. Good used condition. Enamel cracks throughout the piece, small enamel jumps on part of the border, a few brown dots and a clear line on the reverse, near the mark. Do not hesitate to contact me for more information.
