Autodestructive Patterning

AZMAS RUGS

Glitch Art

Designs that contain within them the seeds of their own destruction. The Romanian historian of religion Mircea Eliade posited the the theory of "eternal return". In his book "Images and Symbols" he asked: What is the meaning of all these myths and all these rites? That the world is born, disintegrates, perishes and is reborn in a very rapid rhythm. Arguably Banksy's "auto-destruction" of his painting (created, sold, shredded) is an example whereas in primitive art there are Tibetan sand mandalas and Navajo sand paintings. Update 28 March 2020. I was happy to receive this photo from India. As our rug weaving project is essentially a cottage industry production continues in our weavers backyards for designs that were specified before the lockdown. We have never attempted to set up a workshop and our coordination structure with separate weavers operating in their own backyards continues. This does not mean there has not been disruption but it is heartening to see from the photo that this particular design was progressing before the curfew.
