Autodestructive motif
Glitch Art
Another rug that aims to present both creation and the seeds of its own destruction within its pattern. The Romanian historian of religion Mircea Eliade posited the the theory/concept of "eternal return". For example in his book "Images and Symbols": What is the meaning of all these myths and all these rites? That the world is born, disintegrates, perishes and is reborn in a very rapid rhythm. Its easy to theorise that this myth of "eternal return" influenced Modern and Primitive Art. Arguably Banksy's "auto-destruct" shredding of his painting (born, disintegrates, perishes) is an example whereas in primitive art there are Tibetan sand mandalas and Navajo sand paintings.
