Opinel, the knife made in France
The French knife made in the worshops in Savoie since 1890
The Opinel knives have been made in France since the company was founded in 1890. The factory is located in Chambéry, in Savoie, in the same place as the head office. The factory gathers the wood, varnish, wood craftsmanship, milling, ferrule, assembly, packaging and shipment workshops. 130 people work to ensure the longevity of the brand and the success of the company, 51% of whom are women and 49% men. Opinel works mainly with local suppliers: 80% are French, and 50% of them are located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, in order to limit the pollution caused by transports. The knives are made of steel, which is a 100% recyclable material, and wood, with 95% of the handles coming from French farms.
