For the new installation at Stone Gallery in Baarn, the mission was clear: create a table that would honor a remarkable amethyst. Roy Masin, gemologist and gallery owner, explains: “I have a beautiful amethyst and I’ve been looking for someone who could make a table around it. Until now, I couldn’t find anyone who could or would take on the challenge.” At Sturdy-Legs, saying no is not in our vocabulary. The scale was immense 160 x 120 cm and 400 kg but the size of the amethyst didn’t intimidate us. The design and materials were already envisioned by Nathalie Petersen. Wenge wood was chosen for its dark tone, perfectly complementing the purple amethyst and emphasizing the rich texture of the wood. After creating molds for both the tabletop and the base, the table was brought to life. The final piece measures an impressive 460 x 160 cm a true showstopper and centerpiece. This collaboration transformed a single gemstone into an extraordinary functional sculpture, combining craftsmanship, material elegance, and a bold sense of scale.
