Chantal Hamaide

After studying at the Ecole Nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs ENSAD in Paris, in the interior design section, Chantal Hamaide wrote for French and international magazines until 1984. As a journalist focused on analysis and shared experiences dealing with design and designers, in September 1985, with Thierry Houplain, she founded design magazine Intramuros. She has been called upon to participate in a number of panels, including for the National Grand Prix of Industrial Design awarded by the Ministry of Culture (1994-1997), the Designer of the Year Award at MAISON&OBJET (since 1990), the ECAL in Lausanne, the ENSAD in Paris, the AGORA Scholarship since 1994, the Emile Hermès Prize (2009-2016), and the CINNA Prize (since 2007)….As a curator, she has organized many exhibitions in Paris, Milan, and New York. As the initiator of numerous round-tables and talks, her personality as a founder and director of Intramuros has made this magazine an essential medium for the design world. The "Plaques Sensibles" exhibition to mark the 20th anniversary of Intramuros, hosted at the Centre Pompidou, invited designers from the cover of the magazine to design an object using a Corian panel. This event was repeated at the Institut Français in Milan during Miami-Basel. For 32 years, Intramuros magazine has helped to consolidate and highlight design as a tool to transform society. Chantal Hamaide resigned from her position in September 2017, after the sale of this publication. . In the year 2000, Chantal Hamaide was named Chevalier of the Légion d’honneur, for the July 2000 group, presented to her by Laurent Fabius, Minister of Industry and Finance. In 2011, Chantal Hamaide was named Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters, for the July 2011 group, presented to her by Frédéric Mitterand, Minister of Culture and Communications.
