My approach to lighting design is more and more visual.
It is less a question of responding to a need to enlighten than to highlight the object itself which incidentally produces light. Reinventing the object, making the most of its history, its faults, its material. Then introduce light sources as graphic elements, small halos, diffractions, transparencies, flickers. Create mechanisms, make the lamp mobile, scalable, photo - graphic.
