Speziale was created with the aim of enhancing the infinite resources of spices and emphasizing the urgency of reducing packaging.This container, whose name was used in medieval times to refer to the Masters of Aromatics, is designed as a toolbox to preserve the best properties of these foods.A unique spice box, a kind of sewing box in which these foods, special “tools” for the kitchen and body, can be individually stored.Sage, bay leaves, rosemary, parsley, basil, oregano, the precious saffron, chili pepper, and Sicilian sumac are some spices belonging to the very ancient heritage of Italian cuisine, not only because of their availability in the territory but also because they have always been the protagonists of some regional dishes. Spices can be considered not only as tools for flavoring and seasoning foods and beverages but also as real foods, both known and unheard of, characterized by a fortifying power whose nutritional values it might be useful to delve into.Like a tailor, “Speziale” sews roots, berries, and leaves with a light thread, and preserves their best properties, revealing ancient origins to be integrated with more common ingredients.The project was born from an idea of Raffaella Guidobono, founder of Leftover, a “factory” born in Palermo in 2011, with the aim of telling the encounter between Design and Craft through unique, limited-edition objects.Speziale was created by the artisans of via Calderai in Palermo, an important artery of the former Jewish quarter of the city, once the bed of the Kemonia river, a place destined for centuries for the processing of household tools, not far from the Church of Sant’Andrea degli Aromatari, site of the guild of the ancient Palermo apothecaries.Product specifications
