Nabi Artist Residency 2018

2018 Nabi Artist Residency Patron Artist_ Matthias Dörfelt, Amay Kataria, Sjoerd ter Borg, Sabina Hyoju Ahn Place_ ART CENTER NABI, SK Face Trade Matthias Dörfelt Cord, Computer, Printer, Thermal Printer, Button, LCD Screen, Speaker, Camera, Flash, Medium Fiberboard, Metal, Paint 52x60x177 2018 Face Trade is an art vending machine. A computer takes a photograph of a person and prints a drawing of the face. Although one is required to insert payment, a truly unique artwork can be received. During the momentary wait, the face is saved within the Ethereum blockchain in perpetuity. The title is inspired by the transaction and gives food for thought to the values of today. (Groove) Body Amay Kataria Custom Code, Smart Blockchain Contract, Variable Size 2018 (Groove) The body uses blockchain technology to give partial ownership. A fictional protagonist is created with GROVE coins, posing and dancing to communicate with the outside world. Perhaps with the actual owner as well. As society becomes increasingly exposed to the blockchain, so too does the person’s idea of ownership and art. By possessing a single GROVE token, one can claims ownership of the artwork--however partial that claim may be. Beach Umbrella Sjoerd ter Borg Single Channel Video Variable Size 2018 Parasol (Beach Umbrella) uses street view images of multinational corporations to depict changes in the city over time. The artist explores the relationship between gentrification and technology, and questions how we can measure this change. Through a deluge of perspectives, there is a nearly endless combination of viewing life, death, art, the birth of an object, or little occurrence within the city. Technology reads the future of the city. It analyzes like a scientist and predicts as if an astrologer. Or perhaps there is not much difference after all. By using the parasol, or beach umbrella, as the focal point of observing change, this artwork reflects the city in the eyes of technology and ponders the transience of the past, present, and future. Bias Sjoerd ter Borg Interactive Web Installation Variable Size 2018 Bias is an artwork that gathers and archives the artist’s location through mobile technology. The street view images of the visited places are downloaded and differentiated depending on visual perspective. At times the art is lost in the city, just as time is lost to man. DIY Bionoise Sabina Hyoju Ahn DIY circuit, Wooden Frame, Electrical Parts, Variable Size 2018 DIY Bionoise is an instrument that generates and controls the noises of the user’s body. Through the measurement of bioelectricity, this instrument controls, and releases noise. Although constructed using a modular synthesizer, sequencer, and various DIY components, the instrument became functional with the addition of the customized condenser and sensor. It continues to hum the rhythm of the body.
