STUDIO JULIA ATLAS

The artist Julia Atlas presents "Studies of Peace". A collection of prayer bead sculptures, jewelry for the home inspired by her Turkish and African roots. Making a piece is a prayer delivered through each bead from the tip of Africa to the globe.

People of Africa express themselves through adornment of the body. Each piece of "Jewelry for the home" follows Buddhist principles in their method of binding, in combination with a devotion to symbolism and the language of numbers. They are the rosary, the mala, the tesbih and komboloi "worry bead", our common talisman. Buddhists say the beads are our illusory experiences of life and the thread is our essence, our truth. Place it where you will see it, for its energy to permeate. Display it on a table just so or on a tray or a beautiful book. A rich ornament of beauty and power.

  • 31/05/2018 The Peace Offering Sculpture in Kwerk Wellness Paris
The large sculpture amplifies the message of peace and offers us the opportunity of interaction. They are stripped of decoration, reduced to its essence. The beads are made from a found Tipuana {Rosewood} tree, felled in January 2014 and turned in February. It remains ‘green’ to encourage the cracks, symbolic of humanity and an invitation for light to enter.
