Product description
Handmade Arita porcelain sencha cup, part of the Residues of Fire collection. Each cup is individually saggar-fired — enclosed with rice straw, gosu (traditional Japanese cobalt pigment), copper wire, and metal wire, allowing smoke, carbon, and mineral vapours to act directly on the raw porcelain surface. Dark purples meet warm amber at the foot, framed by carbon sweeps and the pale trace left by copper wire. The interior is finished in a transparent satin glaze.Thrown in Arita porcelain during a three-month residency at Kouraku Kiln, Arita, Japan. The flared form is the traditional shape for fine green tea, full in the hand and without a handle. No two cups are alike — each surface is shaped by the unique chemistry of its firing.Food-safe interior. Dishwasher safe, though gentle hand washing is recommended. Fragile — handle with care.
