Product description

Handmade Arita porcelain lidded bowl, part of the Residues of Fire collection. Each bowl is individually saggar-fired — enclosed with rice straw, gosu (traditional Japanese cobalt pigment), copper wire, and metal wire, allowing smoke, carbon, and mineral vapours to act directly on the raw porcelain surface. Dark purples bloom where the atmosphere was densest, set against warm amber and broad sweeps of carbon; the surface shifts as the light moves across it. The interior is finished in a transparent satin glaze.Thrown in Arita porcelain during a three-month residency at Kouraku Kiln, Arita, Japan. The lid keeps the contents warm and out of sight — for tea, for soup, for small things worth putting away. No two bowls are alike — each surface is shaped by the unique chemistry of its firing.Food-safe interior. Dishwasher safe, though gentle hand washing is recommended. Fragile — handle with care.
