Product description

TRIP is the name of a collection of plaid tapestries inspired by an interpretation of Aldous Huxley’s visions and the perceptual alterations associated with the use of psychedelic drugs. It begins with the perception of colourful, shifting forms, their geometry vivid and alive. Soon, pure geometry gives way to vast, intricate shapes in constant transformation. Points of light emerge, along with fragments of coloured glass reminiscent of translucent fruit. These are followed by membranes of colour, luminous points, and zigzag lines in intensely radiant hues. Gradually, they dissolve into undulating clouds of brilliant shades, within which architectural forms begin to appear. These, in turn, give way to a mountain—a peak of inconceivable height—followed by fluttering drapes of colour and an efflorescence of precious stones. Finally comes a vision of green and purple waves breaking upon the shore, surrounded by myriad points of light echoing the hues of the waves themselves.TRIP was presented in Burning Bright, Serena Confalonieri’s first solo exhibition. The title alludes to William Blake’s poem The Tyger, whose author was among the first to explore the idea of an expansion of perception. Burning Bright draws the viewer into a vibrant, intensely colourful journey, in which sight and all the other senses are hyperstimulated by bold hues and kaleidoscopic patterns.
