Astrolabe Eastern

Designer :
Hemisferium - Espagne
Collection :
Astronomical instruments

Product description

The orginal of this planisferic astrolabe was made by Diya´al Din Muhammad (Lahore, 1647). It is at the Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum, Chicago. It was updated to make it functional. Set for 22º latitude (Mecca). The most sophisticated ancient astronomical instrument to be conceived before the telescope was the astrolabe. A combination of a rudimentary observation tool and an elegant analogical computer, the device was employed for multiple tasks: from estimating time and measuring heights to drawing horoscopes. You will find different astrolabes on our collection.
